💃 Master Your Stance
Ultimate Guide to Ready Position
PICKLEBACKCLUB
Pickleball Enthusiasts-
Have you ever wondered if your stance could be the secret to upping your pickleball game? It's a question many players ponder. The key to a quick, effective response on the court isn't just in how you swing your paddle, but in how you stand ready.
Today, we're diving into the art of the perfect "ready position."
And keep on rolling through this week’s issue, to unlock the Tip of the Week.
💃 Ultimate Guide to the Ready Position
Understanding the Ready Position
The ready position in pickleball is your gateway to agility and speed. It's a balanced, alert stance that prepares you for any shot that comes your way. But what makes a great ready position? Let's break it down.
Feet First: Your Foundation
Your feet are the cornerstone of your ready position. They should be shoulder-width apart, providing a stable base while allowing for quick, multidirectional movements. Think of your stance as the foundation of a house - sturdy yet adaptable.

Body Alignment: The Core of Your Stance
Your body's alignment in the ready position is crucial. Slightly bend your knees and lean forward from your hips. This posture keeps you nimble and ready to spring into action. It's not just about being low to the ground; it's about being ready to move.
Paddle Position: Your Secret Weapon
The position of your paddle can make or break your response time. Hold it in front of you, with the top of the paddle at chest level. This way, you're prepared for both high and low shots, reducing the time it takes to react.

Personalizing Your Stance
Finally, remember that the best stance is the one that works for you. Our recommendation? Practice different variations and find your unique ready position that feels natural and effective.
🚒 Fore, back, and roll!
In pickleball, the forehand and backhand roll shots are executed similarly. For the forehand roll, step forward with your leading foot, rotate your hips, and contact the ball in front of your body with a slightly closed paddle face. Follow through across your body.
For the backhand roll, use a similar motion but with your non-dominant shoulder facing the net. Keep your wrist firm, make contact in front of your body, and finish the swing across your body. Practice helps refine these shots for better control and consistency.

The pickleball roll shot, whether executed with a forehand or backhand motion, offers several benefits:
Placement Control: The roll shot allows for precise placement of the ball, making it effective for aiming at specific areas on the court and placing pressure on opponents.
Soft Touch: It involves a softer touch, which can be advantageous in dinking exchanges at the net, helping you keep the ball low and forcing opponents into errors.

Counter to Power Players: Against hard-hitting opponents, the roll shot can be a strategic counter, using their pace to redirect the ball with control rather than trying to match power.
Dinking Variation: It adds variety to your dinking game, making you less predictable and more challenging for opponents to anticipate your shots.
Reduced Errors: The roll shot, when mastered, tends to have lower error rates compared to more aggressive shots, contributing to more consistent play.
Less Vulnerability: It minimizes the risk of over-hitting or sending the ball long, especially in situations where a softer touch is required.
Incorporating the roll shot into your pickleball repertoire enhances your overall game and provides valuable options during different scenarios on the court.

Oops! We made a foot fault 🦶
In the previous edition, we discussed the serve return in pickleball. To clarify, you do not have to stand behind the baseline to avoid a foot fault when returning a serve. The foot fault rule applies to the server, not the receiver.
However, it's highly recommended to stand behind the baseline when returning the serve. This positioning gives you more time to react, especially against deep serves aimed at your feet.
Our goal is to provide accurate and helpful tips, and we appreciate your feedback and questions!
Your ready position is more than just a stance; it's a reflection of your readiness to face any challenge on the court. By fine-tuning your feet placement, body alignment, and paddle position, you'll be well on your way to becoming a more formidable player.
Stay nimble, stay alert, and most importantly, stay ready!
Happy Playing,
